Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the molasses.
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt; stir into the molasses mixture.
  4. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  6. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls, and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges of the cookies begin to brown.
  8. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
