Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter or margarine

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the warm water, yeast, and egg until completely combined.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rise for about 20 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  7. Divide the dough into six equal pieces and shape into round bagel shapes.
  8. Brush each bagel with the melted butter or margarine and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  9. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before serving.
