Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 egg beaten
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter or margarine
Directions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the warm water, yeast, and egg until completely combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rise for about 20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Divide the dough into six equal pieces and shape into round bagel shapes.
- Brush each bagel with the melted butter or margarine and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
- Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before serving.
