Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, plus 1 for glaze
  • 1/2 cup warm water, about 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Add the oil, eggs, and warm water. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, or until it is soft and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 3 equal pieces.
  6. Roll each piece into a rope about 18 inches long.
  7. Braid the ropes together and place the loaf on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Beat the remaining egg and brush it onto the loaf.
  9. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.
  10. Let the loaf rise for 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  12. Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
