Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cashews
  • 2 tablespoons chopped almonds
  • 1 tablespoon chopped raisins
  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Directions

  1. Soak the basmati rice in enough water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the ghee in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add the garlic and ginger paste and sauté for a few seconds more.
  4. Add the turmeric powder and mix well. Add the soaked rice and mix well.
  5. Add the frozen peas, cashews, almonds, raisins, cardamoms, cloves, sugar, and salt to taste. Mix well.
  6. Add 2 cups of water and mix well. Cover and cook over low heat for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
  7. Stir in the garam masala powder and cilantro and mix well. Serve hot.
