Matar Pulao Rice with Peas

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of basmati rice
  • 1 cup of green peas
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 2 green chillies, chopped

Directions

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 20 minutes.
  2. Heat the oil and butter in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add the cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, and green chillies and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté till they become golden brown.
  4. Add the coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder and salt to taste. Sauté for a few more seconds.
  5. Add the green peas and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Fry for a few minutes.
  7. Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and cover the pan with a lid. Cook for 20-25 minutes till the rice is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with raita or your favorite accompaniment.
