Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 stick butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan with butter and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in two batches, alternating with the milk. Beat until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter in half and place it in two separate bowls. Add the cocoa powder to one of the bowls and stir until combined.
  6. Spoon the two batters into the prepared cake pan alternately, then swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect. Sprinkle the top of the cake with the chocolate chips.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool completely before serving.
