Mama's Cornbread and Sausage Turkey Dressing

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground sage sausage
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a medium skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat until evenly browned. Drain off the fat and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the onions and celery until soft. Add the poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper and mix well.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cornbread, sausage, and onion and celery mixture. Add enough chicken broth to moisten the mixture so that it can be lightly pressed together.
  5. Spread the mixture into an ungreased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until lightly browned on top.
