Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sugar for rolling

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the melted butter, eggs, milk, and water and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  5. Using a spoon or your hands, scoop out small pieces of dough and drop into the hot oil.
  6. Fry the malasadas for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Roll the malasadas in sugar while still hot.
  8. Enjoy!
