Ingredients
- 1 lb. mild Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon rubbed sage
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 cups milk
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the flour, thyme, oregano, sage, rosemary, pepper, and salt. Stir until combined and cook for 3 minutes.
- Slowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The gravy will thicken as it cooks.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Serve over biscuits, toast, or mashed potatoes.
