Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/2 cup moong dal
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 tablespoons cashews, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated coconut

Directions

  1. Combine the rice and moong dal in a bowl and wash them thoroughly. Drain the water and set aside.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cashews and sauté for a minute.
  3. Add the ginger and sauté for another minute.
  4. Add the drained rice and dal to the pressure cooker and mix well.
  5. Add the water, salt, pepper, and turmeric and stir to combine.
  6. Close the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles. Allow the pressure to release naturally before opening the lid.
  7. Garnish with freshly grated coconut and serve hot.
