Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
In a small bowl, mix together the milk, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Add the milk mixture to the batter and mix until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, and lemon juice. Brush this mixture on the top of the cake while it is still warm.
Let the cake cool completely before slicing and serving.

This cake is a classic southern dessert that can be served warm or cold.
You can also use lime juice and zest instead of the lemon juice and zest.
The cake is best enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee.
