- 1 box of chocolate cake mix
- Ingredients required for the cake mix (eggs, oil, water)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 12 oz red candy melts
- Yellow and red food coloring
- Chocolate rocks or candy rocks for decoration
- Small plastic volcano toy
Directions
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions and bake in two round cake pans.
- Let the cakes cool completely and level the tops if necessary.
- Using a knife, hollow out the center of one cake, creating a well for the lava ganache.
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering.
- Add the red candy melts and stir until smooth.
- Tint the ganache with yellow and red food coloring to achieve a lava color.
- Pour the lava ganache into the well of the hollowed-out cake.
- Place the other cake on top to cover the ganache.
- Decorate the cake with chocolate rocks around the base and on top.
- Place the plastic volcano toy on top of the cake.
- When ready to serve, press the button on the volcano toy to make the lava ganache erupt from the center of the cake.
