Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of Italian bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the Italian bread lengthwise and widthwise, creating a grid-like pattern, but do not cut all the way through.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and minced garlic together.
  4. Using a pastry brush, generously brush the garlic butter mixture between each bread slice and all over the top of the bread.
  5. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the top of the bread, making sure to get sauce in between the slices as well.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, ensuring it covers the entire loaf.
  7. Evenly sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (optional) on top of the mozzarella.
  8. Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!
