Ingredients
- 2 cups long-grain rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)
Directions
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add the cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Stir well to coat the onions and garlic with the spices.
- Add the rinsed rice to the pot and stir to combine with the spices. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour the water into the pot and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
- Simmer the rice for 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.
- Serve hot as a delicious side dish or as a base for your favorite protein.
