Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix until combined.
  5. Slowly add hot water and mix until combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly between the two prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting.
