This American-style flan is a twist on the classic Spanish dessert, featuring a creamy custard topped with a decadent caramel sauce. It's perfect for impressing guests at dinner parties or simply treating yourself to a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns into a golden caramel.
  3. Pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  6. Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan and fill the pan with enough hot water to reach halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set but still jiggles slightly in the center.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the flan cool to room temperature.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, before serving.
  10. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the dish and invert the flan onto a serving plate.
