Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onions, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually add beef broth to the skillet, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the gravy thickens.
  6. If desired, add sliced mushrooms to the gravy. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the flavors are well blended.
  7. Serve the Salisbury steak hot, topped with the mushroom gravy. Garnish with chopped parsley.
