This recipe takes the traditional Thanksgiving turkey to a whole new level. The succulent turkey is marinated in a tangy orange and maple glaze, resulting in a flavorful and juicy main dish. Serve it with roasted vegetables and cranberry sauce for a complete holiday feast. You'll love the combination of citrusy sweetness and savory turkey flavors

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-pound) whole turkey, thawed if frozen
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey inside and out and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the orange juice, maple syrup, melted butter, minced garlic, chopped rosemary, and thyme leaves.
  4. Season the turkey with salt and black pepper, both inside and outside. Place the turkey in a roasting pan with a rack.
  5. Pour half of the orange and maple glaze over the turkey, reserving the other half for basting later.
  6. Place the orange slices inside the turkey cavity.
  7. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for about 2 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the remaining glaze.
  8. Check the internal temperature of the turkey using a meat thermometer. It should read 165°F (75°C) when the turkey is fully cooked.
  9. Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
  10. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Transfer the drippings from the roasting pan to a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  11. Gradually whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the gravy thickens.
  12. Carve the turkey and serve with the delicious orange and maple gravy.
