Ingredients

  • 2 pounds spare ribs
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, Chinese five spice powder, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar.
  3. Add the spare ribs to the bowl and toss to coat them evenly with the marinade. Let the ribs marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator for maximum flavor.
  4. Place the marinated spare ribs in a roasting pan and cover it tightly with foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours, or until the meat is tender and starts to pull away from the bones.
  5. Remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C).
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with a little water to form a slurry.
  7. Brush the spare ribs with the cornstarch slurry and return them to the oven, uncovered, for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the glaze becomes sticky and caramelized.
  8. Garnish the spare ribs with thinly sliced green onions and serve hot.
