Directions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm (110°F/45°C).
- In the bread machine pan, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and add it to the bread machine pan.
- Pour the warm milk mixture into the bread machine pan.
- Select the dough cycle on your bread machine and start it.
- Once the dough is ready, remove it from the bread machine and place it on a floured surface.
- Knead the raisins and almonds into the dough until evenly distributed.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts and shape each part into a 12-inch rope.
- Braid the three ropes together and tuck the ends under to form a loaf.
- Place the loaf on a greased baking sheet or into a greased bread pan.
- Cover the loaf with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with water.
- Brush the egg mixture gently over the risen loaf.
- Sprinkle the pearl sugar or coarse sugar on top of the loaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
