This recipe for Laura's Pickled Garlic is the perfect way to add a tangy kick to any dish. The garlic cloves are pickled in a flavorful brine made with vinegar, sugar, and spices. The result is a deliciously crunchy and savory condiment that can be used in salads, sandwiches, or as a flavorful topping for grilled meats. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of patience, you can create your own jar of pickled garlic to enjoy at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 head of garlic, cloves separated and peeled

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the vinegar, water, sugar, salt, peppercorns, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar and salt are dissolved.
  2. Add the garlic cloves to the saucepan and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the garlic and brine cool to room temperature.
  4. Transfer the garlic cloves and brine to a clean jar or container. Make sure the garlic cloves are completely submerged in the brine.
  5. Cover the jar or container with a tight-fitting lid and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before using. The pickled garlic will continue to develop flavor the longer it sits.
  6. Enjoy the pickled garlic as a snack, in salads, sandwiches, or as a topping for grilled meats.
