Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup ground almonds
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cherry jam
  • 15 whole blanched almonds
  • 1 tube red decorating gel

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and ground almonds.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the almond extract and salt to the butter mixture and mix well.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a log shape. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and unwrap. Cut each log into finger-length pieces.
  8. Using your fingers, shape each piece into a finger shape, making knuckle-like indentations with a knife. Place on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each finger.
  9. Using the back of a spoon, make a small indentation at one end of each finger for the fingernail.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool for 2 minutes.
  11. Carefully remove the fingers from the baking sheet and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Once cooled, fill the fingernail indentation with a small dollop of cherry jam.
  13. Place a blanched almond at the end of each finger to resemble a fingernail.
  14. Using the red decorating gel, apply gel around the base of each finger to create a bloody effect.
