Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken pieces (with bone)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 green chili, slit
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan or karahi over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they turn golden brown.
  5. Add the tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Cover the pan and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
  7. Remove the lid and add garam masala, plain yogurt, and slit green chili. Mix well.
  8. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
