Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 ounces Brie cheese, rind removed
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally. This process will take around 15 minutes. Stir in the brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry into a rectangle shape, approximately 10x12 inches.
  4. Place the caramelized onions evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Slice the Brie cheese into thin strips and arrange them on top of the onions.
  6. Starting with one of the longer edges, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log shape. Brush the edges with the beaten egg to seal the pinwheels.
  7. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into approximately 1-inch thick pinwheels. Place each pinwheel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between them.
  8. Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the remaining beaten egg.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the pinwheels cool for a few minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed warm.
  11. Serve as an appetizer or as finger food at parties. Enjoy!
