Ingredients

  • For the biscuit base:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • For the caramel filling:
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the chocolate topping:
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, melted butter, and granulated sugar to make the biscuit base. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Bake the biscuit base for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter for the caramel filling over medium heat. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and turns a caramel color.
  5. Pour the caramel filling over the cooled biscuit base, spreading it evenly. Allow it to cool completely.
  6. In a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate chips and butter for the chocolate topping in the microwave or over a double boiler. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  7. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  8. Place the baking dish in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until the caramel and chocolate set.
  9. Once chilled and set, remove the caramel slice from the baking dish using the parchment paper. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.
  10. Enjoy the delightful caramel slices!
