Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can tomato sauce
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add the head of cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the cabbage from the pot and let it cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, dried thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Carefully peel off the cabbage leaves, trying to keep them intact. Cut out the tough central vein of each leaf.
- Take a cabbage leaf and place a portion of the ground beef mixture near the stem end of the leaf. Roll the leaf, folding in the sides as you go. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling.
- In a separate bowl, mix the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice.
- Spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce mixture in the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange the cabbage rolls in the dish, seam side down. Pour the remaining tomato sauce mixture over the cabbage rolls.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and the sauce is bubbly.
- Serve the cabbage rolls hot, spooning some of the tomato sauce over the top. Enjoy!
