Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix in the water until a thick batter is formed.
  3. Spoon the softened butter into the batter and mix until completely combined.
  4. Heat up the oil in a deep fryer or deep pot to 350°F (176°C).
  5. Scoop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry for about 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Transfer the deep fried butter to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Serve with your favorite condiments or a sprinkle of sugar and enjoy!
