Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture, alternately with milk, beating until just combined.
Stir in vanilla extract. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake in a preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
