Indulge in the rich and creamy goodness of homemade vanilla ice cream with this simple recipe. Made with real vanilla beans and fresh cream, this dessert is perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth on a hot summer day.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, sugar, and vanilla bean over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks until pale and thick. Slowly pour the hot cream mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly.
  3. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Cover and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  6. Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer's instructions.
  7. Transfer the churned ice cream to a container and freeze for an additional 2 hours before serving.
