Cabbage rolls are a classic dish, often associated with comfort food. This recipe combines tender cabbage leaves filled with a flavorful mixture of ground beef, rice, and spices, all topped with a rich tomato sauce. It's a dish that's sure to impress and satisfy your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cabbage head and cook for about 10 minutes, or until the outer leaves are soft and pliable.
  3. Remove the cabbage from the pot and carefully peel off the softened leaves. Trim any large rib sections to make rolling easier.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, dried thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  5. Take a cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of the beef and rice mixture onto the center. Fold in the sides and roll up tightly. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce mixture onto the bottom of a baking dish.
  8. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the baking dish, arranging them close together.
  9. Pour the remaining tomato sauce mixture over the top of the cabbage rolls.
  10. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are tender and the filling is cooked through.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
