Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup chopped dried figs
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the brown sugar, vegetable oil, and eggs until combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Stir in the figs and chocolate chips.
  5. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a log about 1-inch thick. Place logs onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  6. Transfer the logs to a cutting board and cut into 1/2-inch thick slices. Place the slices back on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until crisp. Let cool completely before serving.
