Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla and sour cream.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually stir into the creamed mixture until well blended. Gently fold in chocolate chips.
Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow cake to cool before serving.
