Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons of cold water
  • 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup of white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of light corn syrup

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, 3/4 cup of white sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the water until the mixture forms a ball. Pat the dough into the prepared baking pan.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the apples, 1/2 cup of white sugar, and cinnamon. Mix until the apples are evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture over the dough in the pan.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, 1/2 cup of butter, and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and bubbly. Pour over the apples.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool before serving.
