Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the butter and use your fingers to rub it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the buttermilk and vanilla extract and stir until the dough just comes together.
  5. Add the cranberries and walnuts and stir until evenly distributed.
  6. Drop the dough by the tablespoonful onto an ungreased baking sheet, leaving at least 2 inches between each scone.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until lightly golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving.
