Ingredients

  • 3-4 lb beef brisket
  • 1/4 cup blackening spice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup ketchup

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the blackening spice, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Rub the mixture into the brisket on all sides.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the brisket and sear on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes.
  6. Remove the brisket from the skillet and set aside.
  7. In a medium bowl, whisk together the apple cider vinegar, apple juice, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, honey, and ketchup.
  8. Pour the mixture over the brisket and cover with foil.
  9. Bake in preheated oven for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or until the brisket is tender.
  10. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
