1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Directions
Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Using a pastry cutter, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the buttermilk, chopped basil, and oregano to the bowl, and stir until the mixture comes together to form a dough.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently for a few minutes, until it is smooth. Pat the dough into a circle that is about 1/2-inch thick.
Using a floured biscuit cutter, cut the dough into circles and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-14 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
Serve warm with butter or your favorite jam.
