Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the buttermilk and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture and beat until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
