Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk; stir in the cocoa and chocolate chips.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
