Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, stir into the creamed mixture. Mix in the raisins and nuts.
Spread evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch.
Cool completely before cutting into bars.
