Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the shortening with a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk and mix until the dough comes together.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes until the dough is smooth.
  6. Roll the dough out to 1/2-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a 2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place the biscuits on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and enjoy!
