Ingredients

  • 1 15-ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup diced bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 whole-grain buns
  • Toppings of your choice

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until most of the beans are broken down.
  2. Add the oats, onion, bell pepper, parsley, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and flaxseed to the bowl and mix until everything is combined.
  3. Form the mixture into 4 patties and place them on a plate.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve the patties on buns with your choice of toppings.
