Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 2 cups beef broth

Directions

  1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5 minutes. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika, if using. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, uncovered, until the chili has thickened, about 20 minutes.
  4. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
