Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
  4. Stir in the flour and cayenne pepper. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
