This Sweet Fire Rib Rub adds a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors to your ribs. The rub is made with a combination of brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub it generously on your ribs and let it sit for a few hours or overnight to allow the flavors to penetrate. Then, grill or smoke the ribs to perfection. The result is tender, juicy ribs with a sweet and smoky flavor that will leave you craving for more. This recipe is perfect for BBQ parties or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 racks of baby back ribs

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Place the ribs on a clean work surface and remove the membrane from the back of each rack.
  3. Generously sprinkle the rub over both sides of the ribs, pressing it into the meat to ensure it adheres.
  4. Cover the ribs with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  5. Preheat your grill to medium heat, around 250°F (120°C), or set up your smoker with charcoal and wood chips for indirect cooking.
  6. If using a grill, place the ribs bone-side down on the grill grates, away from direct heat. If using a smoker, place the ribs on the smoker racks.
  7. Close the grill or smoker and cook the ribs for about 4-5 hours, or until the meat is tender and pulls away from the bone.
  8. During the last 30 minutes of cooking, baste the ribs with your favorite BBQ sauce to add a sticky glaze.
  9. Once done, remove the ribs from the grill or smoker and let them rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  10. Serve the ribs hot with additional BBQ sauce on the side, if desired.

Interesting Facts

  • The combination of brown sugar and spices in this rub creates a caramelized crust on the ribs, adding a delicious sweetness and complexity of flavors.
  • Removing the membrane from the back of the ribs allows the rub to penetrate the meat better and results in tender ribs.
  • Cooking the ribs low and slow on a grill or smoker infuses them with a smoky flavor and ensures they become tender and juicy.
  • Letting the ribs rest after cooking allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in more flavorful and succulent meat.
