Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar, for rolling
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, for sprinkling
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt. Gradually stir dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in remaining 1/2 cup of sugar. Place on prepared baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes, until lightly golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Sprinkle with ground nutmeg before serving.
