Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses.
  4. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger; stir into the molasses mixture.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
