Ingredients
- 4 cups purple corn kernels
- 8 cups water
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 cloves
- 1 pineapple, peeled and chopped
- 2 apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- Juice of 2 limes
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
Directions
- In a large pot, combine the purple corn kernels, water, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, until the corn kernels are soft and the liquid becomes purple.
- Remove from heat and strain the liquid to remove the corn kernels and spices. Discard the solids.
- Return the strained liquid to the pot. Add pineapple, apples, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
- Once cooled, add the lime juice and stir well.
- Refrigerate the drink for at least 2 hours, or until chilled.
- Serve the Chicha Morada in glasses filled with ice cubes.
