Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups spinach leaves

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cups water

Directions

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
  2. In a pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and allow them to splutter.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  4. Add the minced garlic, ginger paste, and green chili. Sauté for a minute.
  5. Now, add the spinach leaves and cook until they wilt.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Stir well to combine the rice with the spices.
  8. Add water and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan.
  9. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  10. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.
  11. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
