Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the milk.
  3. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just blended.
  4. Chill dough for at least one hour.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  7. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.
