Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup Irish whiskey
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup sour cream
- Glaze:
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Irish whiskey
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons butter
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add the whiskey and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients alternately with the sour cream and mix until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the glaze: In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, whiskey, vanilla, and butter.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.
