Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 cup Irish whiskey
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
Glaze:
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons Irish whiskey
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add the whiskey and vanilla and mix until combined.
Add the dry ingredients alternately with the sour cream and mix until combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the glaze: In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, whiskey, vanilla, and butter.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.
